PJM and FERC are both considering policies to require the major new load from data centers to be “bring your own generation,” that the data centers provide themselves off grid. There may be a significant shift of new load off grid provided on site by other sources. How can you predict this in the IRP?
On April 16, 2026, in Docket No. RM26-4-000 (Large Load Interconnection Docket), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued an "Order Regarding Intent to Act," indicating that FERC intends to act with respect to this docket by the end of June 2026. The Company will review FERC’s decision when it is issued to determine if/how it could be incorporated in future IRPs.
The IRP is a planning document based on a snapshot in time and is updated regularly to reflect new information. As regulatory requirements, PJM rules, or market conditions related to large load customers change, they will be incorporated into future IRP filings.
