The IRP

The IRP is a reliability planning document that is filed every year with state regulators in Virginia and North Carolina and shows how the Company plans to meet customers’ long-term energy needs. As required by law and regulatory requirements, the IRP contains potential plans for balancing energy supply and demand and environmental requirements, while ensuring reliable service and maintaining affordability for customers. The information in the IRP reflects a moment in time that captures current state and federal regulatory requirements, technology advancements and market conditions. This information is updated with each new IRP.

Stakeholder Process Overview

The IRP stakeholder process and website are intended to provide stakeholders with greater transparency into the technical modeling, input assumptions and other factors that affect IRP results while providing a forum for stakeholder feedback and to make relevant inquiries. The stakeholder process consists of four phases. Phase One included a kick-off meeting, which was held on March 28, 2024, during which we received input from stakeholders on initial topics of interest. To view a recording of the presentation, please see the Stakeholder Meetings and Materials page.

In Phase Two, stakeholders will meet in small groups led by third-party facilitators throughout May. During these small group meetings, more detailed input will be gathered from stakeholders.

Phase Three will consist of topic-specific workshops. The topics will be determined by areas of interest identified by stakeholders in the small group meetings.

In Phase Four, participants will have the opportunity to meet twice. In late summer, we will reconvene to review the collective input and recommendations that will be used to develop a report that will be included in the 2024 IRP filing. Lastly, there will be a final stakeholder meeting shortly after the IRP is filed in October to provide an overview and answer questions.
